Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zum Färben von keratinischen Fasern, umfassend die folgenden Schritte in der angegebenen Reihenfolge A) Behandeln der Fasern mit einem Vorbehandlungsmittel (V), B) Behandeln der Fasern mit einem Färbemittel (F), wobei - das Vorbehandlungsmittel (V) mindestens ein Lösungsmittel aus der Gruppe Benzylalkohol, 2-Phenoxyethan-1-ol und/oder Propylencarbonat enthält und - das Färbemittel (F) mindestens einen direktziehenden Säurefarbstoff enthält.
