An apparatus having an automatically adjustable pot seedling feed rate and a method therefor are provided. The apparatus essentially comprises a pot seedling scooper (1), a conveyance unit (4), a detection sensor (3), a controller (6), a seedling sorting unit (2), side panels (7), and brackets (5). The conveyance unit (4) comprises a servomotor (4-5), a transmission shaft (4-4), a conveyor belt (4-1), a tension shaft (4-3), and a bearing (4-2). The seedling sorting unit (2) comprises a seedling sorting rod (2-1), a reset spring (2-3), a guide post (2-5) and a support seat (2-2). The method comprises using the pot seedling scooper (1) to place pot seedlings into the conveyance unit (4) and the controller (6) controlling the servomotor (4-5) to drive the conveyance belt (4-1) and the movement of the pot seedlings. When a hopper of the transplanter ascends to a seedling receiving position, the transplanter controls the seedling sorting rod (2-1) to deploy and drives the servomotor (4-5) to drive the pot seedlings to move forward; the pot seedlings fall into the hopper (11), and the seedling sorting rod (2-1) straightens the feed orientation of the pot seedlings at the moment the seedlings fall, thereby improving seedling transplantation quality. In the invention, the conveyance and sorting of the pot seedlings during the transplantation process is automated. This prevents human operators from experiencing the over-exhaustion and anxiousness caused by the frequent and repetitive movements otherwise required by the seedling feed process.
