PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a breast tomography apparatus capable of grasping an insertion state of a breast of a subject more accurately, and a control method thereof.SOLUTION: A breast tomography apparatus includes a gantry incorporating a radiation source and a radiation detector, and a breast insertion part provided to the gantry for inserting a breast which is an object of tomography. The breast tomography apparatus detects the contact of a person to be examined with the gantry using at least one contact detection sensor disposed to the gantry, and determines a state of breast insertion into the breast insertion part on the basis of the detection of the contact of the person to be examined with the gantry by the contact detection sensor.【課題】被検者の乳房の挿入状態をより正確に把握することが可能な乳房断層撮影装置およびその制御方法を提供する。【解決手段】乳房断層撮影装置は、放射線源と放射線検出器を内部に有したガントリと、ガントリに設けられた、撮影対象の乳房を挿入するための乳房挿入部と、を有する。乳房断層撮影装置は、ガントリに配置された少なくとも１つの接触検知センサを用いて、被検者のガントリへの接触を検出し、接触検知センサによるガントリへの被検者の接触の検出に基づいて、乳房挿入部への乳房の挿入状態を判定する。【選択図】 図２
