PURPOSE: A composition containing Ligularia fischeri extract or 2,5,8,11,14,17,20-heptaoxaheneicosane is provided to prevent or treat cerebral diseases, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. CONSTITUTION: A composition for protecting neural cells contains Ligularia fischeri extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using organic solvent, water, or mixture thereof. The extract is a chloroform fraction prepared by extracting Ligularia fischeri with ethanol, fractioning the residue with hexane, chloforom, and ethyl acetate in order, and performing silicagel column chromatography.본 발명은 곰취 추출물 또는 이로부터 분리된 활성성분인 2,5,8,11,14,17,20-헵타옥사헤네코산의 뇌신경세포 보호 용도를 제공한다. 이들 성분은 우수한 산화적 스트레스 저해능 및 뇌신경세포 보호 효과를 나타낸다. 따라서, 이들을 유효성분으로 포함하는 조성물은 뇌신경 질환, 알츠하이머병, 파킨슨 병, 대뇌 아밀로이드 맥관병증(Cerebralamyloidangiopathy), 치매 및 헌팅턴병 등의 다양한 질환을 효과적으로 예방, 치료 또는 개선하기 위해 사용될 수 있다.
