There is provided a method for overcoming corneal birefringence comprising:measuring birefringence compensation using a circular Stokes param eter 'V', andmeasuring glucose concentration using a Faraday based glucose sensing polarimeter.Also provided is a noninvasive birefringence sensing polarimeter system comprising:at least one light source,at least one polarizer,at least one anterior birefringence compensator configured to apply a retardance that cancels out any effect due to anterior sample birefringence in at least one sample containing an optically active substance,at least one posterior birefringence compensator configured to apply a retardance that cancels out any effect due to posterior sample birefringence, andat least one rotation device configured to measure optical polarization of the optically active substance in the sample.
