An apparatus for delivery of a coating substance towards a product, particularly a foodstuff, comprises a first roller 22 which is spaced apart from a conveyor support surface 20 and compresses a product passing therebetween. An electrostatically charged coating powder is directed towards the roller which has an opposite electrical potential, so that the powder is supplied to the roller only in a uniform manner, contact of the roller upon the product then leads to loss of the powder onto the product. The product may be chewing gum, dough or a bread product. The apparatus may further comprise an opposed second roller (figure 6) and an electrostatic aerosol device 26.
