598470 A system for backflush cleaning a dairy animal milker unit (40) and applying teat dip to dairy animals is disclosed. The system includes a main control (26), an air supply (25), a water supply (29), a backflush fluid supply (28), a stall control (36) for receiving the air, and a safety valve (60). The safety valve comprises a backflush piston for movement between a milking position and a backflush position. The safety valve is adjacent to a downstream portion of the milker unit. The safety valve allows milk flow from the milker unit when in the milking position and allows backflush fluid flow to the milker unit when in the backflush position. A teat dip applicator system is also disclosed, wherein the safety valve further comprises a dip valve piston which controls the flow of dip to the milker unit.
