Open-sided plastic box particularly suitable for transport and display of fruit and vegetables, has inverted U-shaped bar-handles incorporating gas-injection molded cavity
Open-sided plastic box ,has double-walled handling bars (4) at the top of the box that include an intermediate space, which is roughly an inverted U-shape in cross section. High inside the bars, a fully-enclosed internal cavity is produced by gas injection. It runs the entire length of the strip. An Independent claim is included for corresponding equipment molding the box. The mold has a fixed nozzle section and moving closure section, enclosing a molding cavity when closed. A molding core is introduced, defining the molding cavity. Near the nozzle section, four base jaws are offset mutually through 90 deg with respect to each other. These face the closure section and surround the core externally, with clearance. Faces opposite the core are angled, their spacing from the core increasing away from the nozzle section. Sloping inner surfaces of the jaws are provided with guides. These border the molding cavity externally, when the mold is closed. A jaw slide is provided for each handling bar. It has components controlling its motion during box extraction. A web on the slide forms the intermediate space of the handling bars. There are nozzles for gas introduction into the injection-molded plastic. Mold operation is further described.
