A pharmaceutical composition for oral administration comprises: a core comprising hydrocortisone and a carrier, contacting the core is a layer comprising a delayed release polymer wherein the delayed release polymer is a pH sensitive enteric polymer and is a mixture of poly(methacrylic acid/methyl methacrylate) in a ratio of 1:1 and poly(methacrylic acid/methyl methacrylate) in a ratio of 1:2 to delay the release of hydrocortisone from the core. Preferably the ratio of the two polymers is 1:4 and forms about 6-7% w/w of the composition. The hydrocortisone may be present in or on the carrier together with a binding agent such as povidone which is preferably present at a concentration of between 0.5-4% w/w of the composition. The enteric polymer layer may comprise a plasticiser such a dibutyl sebacate which is preferably between 0.5-1.0% w/w of the composition. The hydrocortisone may be substituted for cortisone acetate. Preferably the composition is for use in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, inflammatory conditions and depression.
