A kit for treating cancer, comprising a first composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of sodium meta arsenite or a combination of sodium meta arsenite and arsenic trioxide, and a second composition containing a therapeutically effective amount of a cytotoxic anticancer agent selected from the group consisting of cisplatin, adriamycin and taxol. ! 2. The kit according to claim 1, where the first composition contains sodium meta arsenite and the second composition contains cisplatin. ! 3. The kit of claim 2, wherein the first composition is formulated for oral administration. ! 4. The kit according to claim 1, where the first composition contains a combination of sodium meta arsenite and arsenic trioxide and the second composition contains cisplatin. ! 5. The kit according to claim 1, where the cancer is lung cancer. ! 6. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cancer is cancer associated with cancer cells containing chromosomes having long telomeres. ! 7. The use of an arsenic-free anti-cancer agent for treating cancer in a patient, where the patient is treated according to a regimen comprising administering to the patient sodium meta arsenite or a combination of sodium meta arsenite and arsenic trioxide, or a combination thereof. ! 8. The use of claim 7, wherein the patient has lung cancer. ! 9. The use of claim 7, wherein the cancer is associated with cancer cells containing chromosomes having long telomeres. ! 10. The use of claim 7, wherein the arsenic-free anticancer agent is selected from cisplatin, adriamycin, taxane, and a combination thereof. ! 11. The use of claim 10, where the taxon is paclitaxel or docetaxel. ! 12. The use according to claim 7, where the arsenic-free anti-cancer agent is cisplatin.1.
