The present invention relates to an apparatus and methods for generating an inhalable medium. An apparatus comprises a container for holding a liquid, a heater for volatilizing the liquid contained in the container and generating a flow of at least steam or aerosol during use, and a receptacle for receiving material. the receptacle is located adjacent to the heater such that during use the material received in the receptacle is heated by the heater.
