PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parakeratosis inhibitor, pore-contracting agent or skin roughness-preventing/improving agent, which has functions such as parakeratosis inhibition, pore contraction, and skin roughness prevention/improvement, is free from problems such as sensory irritation on safety, and has high safety, and to provide an external composition which is used for skins and contains a compound having the functions.SOLUTION: This parakeratosis inhibitor, pore-contracting agent or skin roughness-preventing/improving agent comprises one or more compounds selected from &beta-alanine derivatives and their salts.
