Disclosed is a compound of formula (I), wherein the substituents are as defined in the specification, and processes for its preparation. Examples of the disclosed compound are: 8-(S)-9-Cyclopentyl-3,6,6-trimethyl-1-(4-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-1,3,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-furo[3,4-b]quinolin-8-ol and (8S)-9-(4-Fluorophenyl)-3,6,6-trimethyl-1-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-1,3,5,6,7,8-hexahydrofuro[3,4-b]quinolin-8-ol The compounds are hexahydrofuro[3,4-b]quinoline derivatives having an inhibitory effect on the enzyme cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP). Further disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition useful in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders and atherosclerosis.
