A solid cosmetic product comprising a water dispersible fat containing component comprising a vegetable butter, vegetable oil or a mixture thereof, present in an amount of at least 35 wt.% based on the fat containing component, and an emulsifier and a carbon dioxide effervescent component comprising a salt of carbonic acid and an acidifying agent wherein the said components are distinct from each other. The fat containing component may be in one or more distinct pieces, which may be optionally entirely enveloped by the effervescent component or disposed on the outside of the effervescent component. The emulsifier may be selected from polyoxyethers of lauryl alcohol, PEG-6 caprylic/capric glycerides, PEF-60 almond glycerides, sodium cocoamphoacetate and mixtures thereof. The carbonic acid salt may be alkali metal carbonates or bicarbonates, such as sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate. The acidifying agent may be selected from mono-, di- or tri- carboxylic acids, such as citric acid or potassium bitartrate. The composition may further comprise additional components selected from binders, fillers, opacifiers, perfumes, fragrances, decorative items and mixtures thereof. A method of manufacture is also disclosed. The product is used in bathing as a bath bomb.
