PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hereditary diabetic mouse containing 96 amino acid of preproinsulin which is substituted from a cysteine group to a tyrosine group by mutation of 1,907 base sequence of mouse insulin 2 gene from G to A. SOLUTION: This hereditary diabetic mouse is a study material extremely useful as a disease model of human diabetes for investigating crisis mechanism, prevention, treatment, etc., of human diabetes and can be expected to bring about basic and systematic findings which may not be obtained at all only from the object of human study. A large amount of diabetic mouse of natural crisis useful for diabetic study can be prepared.
