PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sterilizing apparatus excellent in sterilizing effect and a sterilization method using the apparatus.SOLUTION: A sterilizing apparatus comprises an active oxygen irradiation unit for applying active oxygen, and an oxidizing gas supply unit for supplying an oxidizing gas, preferably an oxidizing gas selected from hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid so that the active oxygen from the active oxygen irradiating unit is applied to an object to be sterilized in the presence of the oxidizing gas.
