The present invention relates to a method for planting crops (11). The method comprises of forming an elongate soil ridge (1) with upright sides (5) on either side and a top surface (4), at least partially covering the soil ridge (1) with a sheeting (3), piercing at least one planting hole (7) through the sheeting (3) in the top surface (4) of the soil ridge (1), and placing a crop (11) in the planting hole (7). The invention also relates to a planting device (14) for planting crops (11) in an elongate soil ridge (1) having upright sides (5) on either side and a top surface (4) and covered with a sheeting (3).
