The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions of topiramate or salts thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to modified release pharmaceutical compositions comprising at least two types of components, wherein at least one type of the component comprises a matrix of topiramate or salts thereof and one or more release modifying substances. The composition may provide extended and specific release of topiramate or salts thereof to achieve therapeutically effective plasma concentration over a period of 24 hours to treat epileptic conditions when administered to a patient in need thereof. The invention also includes process of preparing such composition.
