A quick-release digit tourniquet 100 having a main body 102 comprising first 104 and second 106 portions which are engageable to form a loop around a digit of a patient; the first 104 and second 106 portions being interposed by a release element 108 havingweakened areas 120, preferably in the form of perforations 122. The weakened areas 120 may be broken or ruptured either by the manual application of a force by a user, or under the application of a predetermined tension caused by over tightening of the tourniquet. In the case of manual application of a force by a user, the force may be applied to a tab 126 forming part of the release element 108. Once ruptured, the main body 102 is split into multiple parts and the digit tourniquet 100 is released from the patient. Also disclosed is a tourniquet strip (1000, Fig 4) comprising a plurality of digit tourniquets 100, a method of releasing a quick-release digit tourniquet and a method of preventing over tightening of a tourniquet.
