A method for treating a fluid, especially a beverage like beer, wine or fruitjuice is provided using a particulate material in the form of a depositedlayerhaving an upstream side and a downstream side wherein a flow of said fluid isdirected through said deposited layer from the upstream to the downstreamside at a first temperature.In order to extend the period of time during which said particulate materialmay be used for the treatment it is suggested to recondition said depositedlayer and then resuming treatment of said fluid,wherein said reconditioning comprises the steps of- heating the deposited layer to a second temperature； and- cooling the deposited layer to a third temperature at an average coolingratein the range of up to about 20 °C/min.
