In cardiac road mapping, a “road map”, which is a representation of the patient's vasculature, typically obtained from previously acquired data from a CT scan, is superimposed on the live intervention data to perform fluoroscopy. The position of the interventional device obtained is shown. In this way, the interventional device can be tracked in a realistic representation of the patient. Accurate registration of fluoroscopic images to roadmap data is an important step, otherwise the reported live one of the interventional device will not be displayed at the correct location in the roadmap. The alignment can be done by injection of contrast agent. In the case of cardiac road mapping, a small vessel diameter means that the interventional device can be directly aligned. However, the behavior of the interventional device in larger vessels is difficult to predict, and therefore device-based alignment is difficult to achieve in such situations.
