PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting optical system for an endoscope and an endoscope for reducing light quantity loss in illumination light.SOLUTION: A lens mounting hole 38 is formed inside a distal portion body 31, and a lighting optical system 20 is inserted into the lens mounting hole. An optical element 40 is fixed in a lens barrel, and the lens barrel, a first lens 41, an spacer ring 44, and a second lens 42 are inserted in this order into the lens mounting hole 38. The outer diameters of the first lens 41, spacer ring 44, and second lens 42 are equivalent to an inner diameter of the lens mounting hole 38. The first lens 41 contacts an edge of the lens barrel to be positioned relative to the optical element 40. A diameter of a space between the optical element 40 and the first lens 41 is equal to the outer diameter of the optical element 40.
