Disclosed is a skin-mountable patch device (1, 2) for use in an analyte measurement system (1, 2,3) designed for continuous in-vivo measurement of a body fluid analyte concentration, and a method for initializing the analyte measurement system. The patch device (1, 2) includes a disposable unit (1), including a transcutaneous analyte sensor (10) and machine-readable sensor identifier (121), and is releasably coupled to an electronics unit (2). A number of initialization data sets for analyte sensor batches are stored in a remote database system (4). A control device (3) reads via a reading device the sensor identifier from the disposable unit (1) and transmits the sensor identifier to the remote database system which determines a matching initialization data set. The matching initialization data set is transmitted via the control device (3) to the electronics unit (2) which stores the matching initialization data set.
