A shock-absorbing shoulder replacement system (10) has a glenoid cup (12) suitable for affixing to the glenoid surface (14) of a scapula (16), a head (18) positioned so as to bear against the glenoid cup (12), a rod (20) affixed to or integral with the head on the side of the head opposite the glenoid cup, a humeral component (22) having a shaft (24) suitable for receipt by the humerus (26) and having a portion (28) extending outwardly of the humerus (26), and a resilient member (30) cooperative between the humeral component (22) and the head (18) such that the head is resiliently mounted in relation to the humeral component. The portion (28) of the humeral component (22) has a receptacle (48) therein suitable for receiving an end of the rod therein.
