In one example, an article 60 for use with an apparatus 10 for generating an aerosol using an irradiation light source 30 is provided. The article 60 has a smokable material 50 that engages a transparent window 65 through which light can pass. In another example, the apparatus 10 for producing an aerosol has an irradiance light source 30 located in the apparatus 10. The at least one optical component (32) directs the emitted light in use by the illumination source (30). The receptacle receives the smokable material (50) and receives the emitted light in use by the irradiation light source (30). A transparent window (65) is arranged between the receptacle (40) and the at least one optical component (32).
