In one example, an article 60 for use with a device 10 for generating an aerosol using an irradiating light source 30 is provided. The article 60 has a smokeable material 50 that engages a transparent window 65 through which light can pass. In another example, the device 10 for generating an aerosol has an illumination light source 30 located in the device 10. At least one optical component 32 steers the light emitted during use by the irradiating light source 30. The receptacle receives the smokeable material 50 and the light emitted during use by the irradiation light source 30. The transparent window 65 is arranged between the receptacle 40 and at least one optical component 32.
