PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decomposition method for easily and effectively decomposing pollutants such as a gaseous organic chlorine compound, and a decomposition apparatus. SOLUTION: The decomposition method decomposes the pollutant under the presence of chlorine. The method contains following processes: a chlorine evaporation process for evaporating chlorine from a solution containing chlorine; a decomposition process for irradiating the pollutant with light under the presence of eveporated chlorine to decompose the pollutant; a process for bringing a gas generated by the decomposition process into contact with an aqueous solution to obtain an acidic solution; and a process for introducing the acidic solution into the solution containing chlorine.
