PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pollutant migration accelerator capable of accelerating migration of a pollutant and a cleaning method for cleaning, by washing with water, contaminated soil and contaminated bottom mud contaminated with a hydrophobic organic pollutant by using the pollutant migration accelerator without using an organic solvent. SOLUTION: The pollutant migration accelerator includes deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or its derivative as an essential constituent, and accelerates migration of a hydrophobic organic pollutant included in the contaminated soil and contaminated bottom mud. Further, the pollutant migration accelerator may include a phosphate ion producing agent. The cleaning method for contaminated soil and contaminated bottom mud includes the step of washing the contaminated soil and the contaminated bottom mud with washing water containing them. In the step of cleaning the contaminated soil and the contaminated bottom mud contaminated with various hydrophobic organic pollutants, e.g., polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAHs) such as naphthalene, phenanthrene and pyrene and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as dioxin, PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl) and DDT, the cleaning efficiency can be enhanced by raising the migration of the pollutants.
