PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument having a cartridge housing for providing a retreated knife and the knife directly joined to a shooting mechanism.SOLUTION: This surgical instrument 20 is adapted to apply a plurality of surgical fasteners to tissues of the body, and has a proximal end part and a distal end part. A handle 21 is arranged in the proximal end part, and an end part effector 80 is arranged in the distal end part. The end part effector has a shape and a dimension for supporting the cartridge housing 121 and an anvil. The cartridge housing and the anvil can relatively move between a mutually separate first position and a mutually approached second position.
