pparatus 1 for serial baited hook deployment from a vessel for pelagic fishing comprises a chute in the form of a conduit 2 deployed from a vessel. A means is adapted to deploy chute from such a vessel whereby when deployed in use the chute has above the water level and accessible from the vessel a baited hook receiving end and below the water level, a baited hook deployment end. The chute can convey a baited hook in conduit form 2 from the receiving end to the deployment end. The chute has a lengthwise extending opening or slot 20 which enable a baited hook to move into and down conduit form 2 with its snood or trace extending out of conduit form 2 throughout the movement of the baited hook down to the release of the baited hook at or below the water level from the deployment end or from slot 20 adjacent the deployment end. Using conduit form 2 during such lowering of the baited hook protects the baited hook from bird strike.
