Medical plugs used in connection with an ostomy procedure include a cap and a flexible elongated cylindrical shaft. The cap has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a first thickness. The elongate cylindrical shaft has a proximal end and a distal end, and extends from the proximal end to the distal end in a direction orthogonal to and away from the bottom surface of the cap. The elongated cylindrical shaft has a shaft diameter and a shaft length. The shaft diameter and the shaft length are configured to close the stomal cavity when the elongated cylindrical shaft is inserted into the stomal cavity. The cap includes a grip portion. The gripping portion causes the pulling force to cause the elongated cylindrical shaft to produce a substantially axial tension when a pulling force is applied to the first and second regions of the gripping portion, thereby elongating the elongated portion. It has a gripping diameter such that the cylindrical shaft can be pulled out of the patient's body.
