The invention relates to a device and a process for preserving and transporting at least one human or animal tissue with a view to transplantation or ex-vivo experimentation, and in particular to the preservation of a sample of human or animal cornea, such as a corneal transplant. This device comprises at least one chamber (1) which is suitable for accommodating and preserving the tissue in a liquid preservation medium which comprises means for the continuous renewal (4a and 4b) of the medium in said at least one chamber. According to the invention, the device also comprises means for regulating (6a and 6b, 7a) at least one physicochemical parameter of said medium, including the pH thereof, by continuous circulation of a buffer gas in said at least one chamber outside of and in contact with said medium.
