The invention relates to a material consisting of an aqueous dispersion of PEO-coated nanoparticles of maghemite. The process for preparing said material consists in polymerizing ethylene oxide in the presence of nanoparticles of maghemite in an aqueous dispersion. The polymerization is initiated using reactive groups which are capable of initiating the polymerization of ethylene oxide without the addition of a catalyst, and which are attached to the nanoparticles of maghemite by means of a coupling agent comprising an alkoxysilyl group and one or more of said reactive groups. Applications: contrast agent for MRI.Linvention concerne un matériau constitué par une dispersion aqueuse de nanoparticules de magnémite enrobées de POE. Le procédé pour la préparation dudit matériau consiste à polymériser loxyde déthylène en présence de nanoparticules de maghémite en dispersion aqueuse. La polymérisation est amorcée à partir de groupements réactifs qui sont capables damorcer la polymérisation de loxyde déthylène sans addition de catalyseur, et qui sont fixés sur les nanoparticules de maghémite par lintermédiaire dun agent de couplage comprenant un groupement alcoxysilyle et un ou plusieurs desdits groupements réactifs. Applications : agent de contraste pour lIRM.
