The present invention describes an animal drawn planter for sowing delinted cotton and other bold seeds in vertisols, maintaining desired seed to seed, plant to plant spacings and uniform depth of seed placement. The novel features of the planter are the precision metering mechanism to meter the seeds with minimum percentage of missing and without damaging or crushing the seeds in hopper while in operation. It also incorporates novel features of cleaning mechanisms incorporated into the animal drawn planter for cleaning the sticking soil from the drive wheel and depth guage wheels of the planter for maintaining uniform seed to seed and row to row placement of seeds while maintaining uniform placement of the seeds for a better crop stand.
