Use of an ester based on 2-propylheptanol with benzoic acid and/or its derivatives in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparation, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) an ester of 2-propylheptanol with benzoic acid derivatives excluding di-[2-propylheptyl]-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid diester； (2) a composition comprising ester of 2-propylheptanol with benzoic acid derivatives and at least a further ester with the same benzoic acid derivatives and with an alcohol of 3-methyl-2-propylhexanol, 4-methyl-2-propylhexanol or 5-methyl-2-propylhexanol； (3) preparing the ester, comprising reacting a mixture containing 2-propylheptanol and the corresponding benzoic acid derivatives； and (4) a cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical composition comprising at least the ester based on 2-propylheptanol with benzoic acid and/or its derivatives, at least an emulsifier, surfactant, wax component, polymer and/or further oil body.
