PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily evulse an endoscope by stopping the rotary shutter of the light source device of the endoscope at a proper position in the case where abnormality occurs in the rotary shutter or a synchronizing signal.

SOLUTION: The light source device 12 of the endoscope is equipped with a light source 51, the rotary shutter 53, a motor 54, a motor driver 55, a position detector 56, and a controller 57. A region to be observed is irradiated with the light emitted from the light source 51. The controller 57 is equipped with a synchronizing processing circuit 61, a trouble detection circuit 62, a counter 63, a comparison value memory part 64, a comparison circuit 65, a stop switch 66 and a rotation control circuit 67. In the case where the position detection signal and reading pulse of the rotary shutter 53 are not detected for a predetermined period, the trouble detection circuit 62 outputs a trouble detection signal to the stop switch 66 to get the comparison circuit 65 and the rotation control circuit 67 connected. The comparison circuit 65 drives the motor 54 until the comparison value read from the comparison value memory part 64 coincides with a counter output value.
