The purpose of the present invention is to provide a balloon catheter configured so that, even if ethanol is supplied to a guide wire lumen having a guide wire inserted therethrough, the movement (including insertion and extraction operation) of the guide wire in the guide wire lumen will not be hindered and so that the balloon catheter can excellently follow the shape of a blood vessel.This balloon catheter is an over-the-wire type balloon catheter having an inner tube 41, an outer tube 43, and a balloon 45. The inner tube 41 comprises: a proximal end section 46 having relatively high rigidity and having formed thereon an inner layer 48 consisting of a resin which is satisfactorily resistant to ethanol and a distal end tip section 47 having relatively low rigidity and consisting of a resin.
