The present invention relates to the description which provides methods and compositions for treating diseases or injuries that affect motor function and control in an individual. In one aspect, the invention relates to a transgene product which is delivered to an individual's spinal cord by administering a recombinant neurotrophic viral vector containing the transgene to the brain. The viral vector distributes the transgene to a region of the brain that is susceptible to virus infection and expresses the encoded recombinant viral gene product. Also provided are compositions for delivery of a transgene product to an individual's spinal cord by administering a recombinant neurotrophic viral vector containing the transgene to the individual's brain.TERAPIA DE GENE PARA ESCLEROSE LATERAL AMIOTRóFICA E OUTRAS ENFERMIDADES DA MEDULA ESPINAL. A presente invenção refere-se à descrição que proporciona métodos e composições para tratamento de enfermidades ou danos que afetam a função e controle motor em um indivíduo. Em um aspecto, a invenção se refere a um produto trangene que é distribuído a uma medula espinal do indivíduo por administração de um vetor viral neurotrófico recombinante contendo o transgene ao cérebro. O vetor viral distribui o transgene para uma região do cérebro que é susceptível a infecção pelo vírus, e que expressa o produto de gene viral recombinante codificado.
