Methods for the treatment and monitoring of diabetic retinopathy are provided. More specifically, the method for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy comprises administering to an individual suspected of having diabetic retinopathy a composition comprising an agent that inhibits the activity or expression of EMAPII or CXCR3. Methods for diagnosing and monitoring the progression of diabetic retinopathy in an individual, or monitoring the efficacy of a therapy for diabetic retinopathy are provided. More specifically, the method comprises determining the levels of EMAPII in a biological sample from an individual and comparing them to a control or reference sample, or a chronological sample from the individual.La présente invention concerne des méthodes de traitement et de surveillance de la rétinopathie diabétique. Plus précisément, la présente méthode de traitement de la rétinopathie diabétique implique l'administration à un individu suspecté de souffrir d'une rétinopathie diabétique d'une composition contenant un agent inhibant l'activité ou l'expression de EMAPII ou CXCR3. L'invention concerne, également, des méthodes de diagnostic et de surveillance de la progression de la rétinopathie diabétique chez un individu, ou encore des méthodes de surveillance de l'efficacité d'un traitement contre la rétinopathie diabétique. Plus précisément, ladite méthode comprend les étapes consistant à déterminer les niveaux de EMAPII dans un échantillon biologique prélevé chez un individu et à les comparer à un échantillon témoin ou de référence, ou à un échantillon précédemment prélevé chez ledit individu.
