The method for providing animal-specific data comprises taking samples (2) from an animal at a sampling station (1). Barcodes are used as animal ID, sampling data ID and sample ID and can be read by a reader (5). They are applied to the animal, sampling station and sample container (8). Independent claims are included for: (A) apparatus for carrying out the method; and (B) a method for herd management using the apparatus.
