A process for the production of luminous bacteria and the application of these bacteria to the surfaces of plants for the purposes of lighting, whereby, following the selection of appropriately harmless bacteria and preparation of a mutant strain, which step ensures that the bacteria carry no other, undesirable genes and cannot grow on a substrate that lacks, for example, an amino acid, synthesised and cloned genes for luminescence are inserted into the bacteria, such that they carry either the genes that code for firefly luciferase enzyme and luciferin regenerating enzyme (LRE system) or the luxABCDEG genes that code for the luciferase system of Aliivibrio fischeri marine bacteria (LUX system), which we have cloned behind the promoter of the Avin_47230 gene of the species Azotobacter vinelandii that expresses itself at a high level. The constructs formed in this way are inserted, along with the gene that eliminates the need for nutrients (e.g. an amino acid), into a transposable element or transposon (jumping gene), which is in turn inserted into the bacteria, as a result of which it becomes able to grow on a substrate not containing the appropriate nutrient (e.g. an amino acid). Once the luminescent property has been tested, the bacteria are mixed with a substance that ensures adequate adhesion to the leaf surface, then substances that, among other things, promote survival of the bacteria and, in the case of the LRE system, activation of luminescence, and the resulting suspension is sprayed evenly over the surface of the plant, after which the luminous phyla are tested on the plants.Cette invention concerne un procédé de production de bactéries lumineuses et l'application de ces bactéries sur les surfaces de plantes à des fins d'éclairage.
