The invention is related to a novel microorganism Lasiodiplodia theobromae CHY-1 which is deposited at Food Industry Research and Development Institute with an accession number BCRC 930153. The novel microorganism is able to form agarwood on certain trees. Therefore, according to the present invention, a method for producing agarwood or producing a special smell of wood comprises: providing Lasiodiplodia theobromae CHY-1 with accession number BCRC 930153 as inoculums inoculating the said inoculums on Thymelaeaceae Family Aquilaria Genus trees forming agarwoods from the above inoculated trees and obtaining agarwoods from the above inoculated trees.
