According to the present invention, a wheelchair drive auxiliary device is used as a drive assisting apparatus of a wheelchair which has wheels on both sides. The wheelchair drive auxiliary device includes: a friction rotor which is in the shape of a cylinder, is installed to be in contact with the outer side of the wheels of the wheelchair and rotates while being in contact with a side of the wheels； a driving unit which is connected to a center shaft of the friction rotor to drive the friction rotor； and a control unit which is electrically connected to the driving unit to control a driving operation of the wheelchair in accordance with a user&prime；s control. According to the present invention, the wheelchair drive assisting device, or a foldable wheelchair drive assisting device enables wheels of an existing wheelchair to have electric-powered drive capabilities by simply mounting the drive assisting apparatus to the existing manual wheelchair. The present invention also enables the existing wheelchair, which is hard to be loaded onto a vehicle due to the size and weight thereof, to be easily carried and loaded by using a folding function of the manual wheelchair.본 발명에 따른 휠체어 구동보조장치는, 양측에 바퀴를 구비하는 휠체어의 구동보조장치에 관한 것으로, 상기 휠체어의 바퀴 외측에 외접하여 설치되고, 상기 바퀴의 일측과 맞닿아 회전하는 원기둥 형상의 마찰회전자； 상기 마찰회전자의 중심축에 연결되어 상기 마찰회전자를 회전시키는 구동부； 및 상기 구동부와 전기적으로 연결되어 사용자의 조작에 따라 구동을 제어하는 제어부를 포함한다. 이러한 본 발명에 따른 휠체어 구동보조장치에 의하면, 본 발명에 따른 접이식 휠체어 구동보조장치에 의하면, 기존의 수동 휠체어에 간단하게 구동보조장치를 장착하여 기존 휠체어의 바퀴에 전동 구동 능력을 가지게 하며, 기존 전동휠체어의 경우 크기, 무게 등으로 차량 등에 적재가 어려웠으나 수동휠체어의 접이식 기능을 이용하여 운반 및 적재가 쉽도록 한다.
