The present invention relates to a method of generating a transgenic mesenchymal stem cell population carrying a transgene, a transgenic mesenchymal stem cell population obtained by or obtainable by the method and a pharmaceutical composition and uses of the transgenic mesenchymal stem cell population in particular for gene therapy.
