PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve appearance of a disposable wearing article.SOLUTION: An upper elastic member 45 of a disposable diaper 1 is joined to an exterior sheet body 40 from a body part opening 11 across to a girth part 407. The upper elastic member 45 is a sheet of elastic film. Thus, appearance of the underpants type disposable diaper 1 can be improved. In the disposable diaper 1, by shrinkage of the upper elastic member 45, body part opening gathers are formed in a body part opening peripheral part 408, and intermediate gathers are formed in the girth part 407. In the upper elastic member 45, tensile stress of a second area 452 arranged in the girth part 407 is smaller than tensile stress in a first area 451 arranged in the body part opening peripheral part 408. Thus, relatively strong adhesion in a part near the body part opening 11 and relatively soft wearing feel of the girth part 407 in contact with the abdominal part and the hip of a wearer can be provided by the upper elastic member 45 to be one sheet of elastic film.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
