Yarn (wire) winding-unwinding device enabling, by simple traction, the yarn (wire) to be unwound from or wound onto a reel which includes two flanges 9 and 10 extending beyond its drum, which device is characterised in that it is constituted by: - a supporting structure without a reel spindle; - a reel 8 without projecting spindle; - means for supporting the reel 8 inside the structure in a floating manner; - means for driving the reel 8 exclusively with a view to winding the yarn (wire); - means for controlling the drive means when the reel has been moved forwards at least a defined distance due to the effect of the traction of the unwound yarn (wire). <IMAGE>
