PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide which can suppress elution of a zinc ion from a zinc oxide particle, and to provide a production method of the silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide, a silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide-containing composition, and a cosmetic.SOLUTION: The silicon oxide-coated zinc oxide of the present invention is obtained by coating the surface of the zinc oxide particle with a silicon oxide film. The zinc oxide particle has the average particle diameter larger than 50 nm and equal to or smaller than 500 nm. When the existence ratio of the silicon in the silicon oxide film in a Q3 environment is defined as Q3 and the existence ratio of the silicon in a Q4 environment is defined as Q4, Q3+Q4≥0.6 and Q4/(Q3+Q4)≥0.5 are satisfied. A decomposition rate of Brilliant Blue is 3% or lower when the decomposition thereof is caused by photocatalytic activity of the zinc oxide particle.COPYRIGHT: (C)2016,JPO&INPIT【課題】酸化亜鉛粒子からの亜鉛イオンの溶出を抑制することが可能な酸化ケイ素被覆酸化亜鉛とその製造方法及び酸化ケイ素被覆酸化亜鉛含有組成物並びに化粧料を提供する。【解決手段】本発明の酸化ケイ素被覆酸化亜鉛は、酸化亜鉛粒子の表面を酸化ケイ素被膜により被覆してなる酸化ケイ素被覆酸化亜鉛であり、この酸化亜鉛粒子の平均粒子径は50nmを超えかつ500nm以下であり、この酸化ケイ素被膜中のケイ素のQ3環境における存在比をQ3、Q4環境における存在比をQ4としたとき、Q3+Q4≧0.6かつQ4/(Q3+Q4)≧0.5であり、この酸化亜鉛粒子の光触媒活性によって生じるブリリアントブルーの分解率は3%以下である。【選択図】なし
