A ferric iron composition for use in a hyperphosphatemia treatment method, wherein the ferric iron composition is a solid material of poly oxo-hydroxy metal ions, modified with ligand represented by the formula (MxLy (OH) n), in which M represents one or more metal ions comprising Fe3 + ions, L represents one or more ligands comprising adipic acid or an ionized form thereof and OH represents oxo or hydroxy groups and wherein the material has a polymeric structure in which the L ligands non-stoichiometrically replace the oxo or hydroxy groups, so that part of the ligand is integrated into the solid phase by formal metal-ligand (ML) bonding and where the solid metal-modified metal oxo-hydroxy ion material ligand has one or more reproducible physicochemical properties.Una composicion de hierro ferrico para uso en un metodo de tratamiento de hiperfosfatemia, en donde la composicion de hierro ferrico es un material solido de poli oxo-hidroxi iones metalicos, modificado con ligando representado mediante la formula (MxLy(OH)n), en la que M representa uno o mas iones metalicos que comprenden iones Fe3+, L representa uno o mas ligandos que comprenden acido adipico o una forma ionizada del mismo y OH representa grupos oxo o hidroxi y en donde el material tiene una estructura polimerica en la que los ligandos L sustituyen de forma no estequiometrica a los grupos oxo o hidroxi, de modo que parte del ligando se integra en la fase solida mediante union metal-ligando (M-L) formal y en donde el material solido de poli oxo-hidroxi iones metalicos modificado con ligando tiene una o mas propiedades fisicoquimicas reproducibles.
