PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a functional article which is suitable for producing a granular or powdery functional substance. SOLUTION: The method for producing the functional article comprises: a film-forming step S1 of forming an anodic oxide film having a large number of fine pores therein on the surface of a plate-shaped or block-shaped base material made from aluminum or an alloy thereof; an adhesiveness-lowering step S2 of lowering the adhesiveness between the base material and the anodic oxide film formed on the surface of the base material; a metal-depositing step S3 of depositing a metal in the large number of the fine pores in the anodic oxide film to impart a function of the deposited metal to the anodic oxide film; a pore-narrowing step S5 of narrowing the apertures of the large number of the fine pores in the anodic oxide film; and an exfoliation step S6 of exfoliating the anodic oxide film on the surface of the base material. The production method can further comprise a grain/powder-forming step S7 of forming the produced functional article into a granular or powdery substance posterior to the exfoliation step S6.
