It permits direct access to infection sites or solid tumours, reducing the amounts of antibiotics or cytotoxic medications through the use of adjustable length shields and perfusers/drainers sparing healthy adjacent tissues from harmful side effect, but more importantly minimising harmful side effects on the body. It similarly permits drainage from regions where natural drainage is impaired. The device allows for the safe introduction and withdrawal of radioactive substances. The device is capable of individual use to reduce pain as well as being the main component of connected devices in a system for perfusing or draining specified layers of tissue.
